Youth Flatwater is a limited monthly membership intended for high school students who want paddle regularly, and maybe competitively, but just for the summer.

Flatwater is the focus, but many skills are transferable to Whitewater, Marathon, and Outrigger.

3 PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays is the general meeting time for those staying in Alder Bay, and sessions last until about 5 PM.  Those able to form training groups can arrange other times with the coach.

The instructional format is highly flexible, but those not wishing to train for competition must stay in Alder Bay, and should expect instruction mostly by fellow students with 2+ years experience.

For 2011, any youth member training in flatwater can get technical coaching.  The coaching days and hours change frequently so contact the flatwater rep to get on a training group mail list.

Participants must be willing to try both canoe and kayak, and may be asked to participate in War Canoe practices to support team competitions.

Participants must also be able to swim 100m wearing a life jacket, and must have appropriate footwear to walk on rocks at low tide.

Age: 14+ or with previous experience.  Younger students often have significant relevant experience and acquire the necessary balance much faster than older students but sizing the equipment can be a problem.

Cost: $50/4 weeks

Times: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 3pm-5pm (no sessions on Wednesdays)

Program runs July 4 - August 26, 2011.

To pre-register, email admin@fcrcc.com, or to register on the day ask for Gerissen or Anthony on the dock.
