CanoeKids is a multi discipline introductory level canoe and kayak program for kids 10-14. The focus is on acquiring balance and maneuvering skills through games and teamwork. Kayaks are the sit-on top type which are great for games but always wet, while canoes are the light marathon tandem type which are good for teaching bio-mechanics. The instructor also has the option to bring out flatwater trainers and outrigger canoes depending on the weather and ability level of the group.
Lessons are designed for students aged 10-14, but as with Youth Flatwater some younger students with experience are accepted because early paddle sport performance generally correlates more with balance skills than age. Except for Outrigger which the instructor may use to venture around False Creek, activities will be limited to Alder Bay. Participants must wear life jackets and should always come prepared to get wet.
Age Group: 10 - 14, with exeptions for relevant experience.
