Our New Club Development Coordinator

Say hello to Jackie Webber ...

Jackie has come aboard as the Club Development Coordinator – a newly-created staff position, the primary goal of which is to ensure that FCRCC continues to be a leader in the competitive paddling community.

Some of the key tasks of that position are:

  • Playing an integral role in the Club to attract and retain individual members and teams
  • Designing and implementing a regular schedule of Small Boat Coached programs for all disciplines
  • Sourcing, recruiting and hiring coaches for Club programs
  • Working in conjunction with the FCCC program staff to design and deliver joint programs
  • Working with the Club Administrator to market and promote FCRCC and its programs
  • Developing and overseeing the delivery of Junior paddling programs, including summer youth camps
  • Providing resources and opportunities for paddler development, including skill development clinics such as coaching, paddling technique, steering certification, sports psychology
  • Liaising with the discipline representatives to ensure consistency and quality of programs
  • Evaluating and ensuring the ongoing quality and effectiveness of FCRCC programs
  • Applying for grants on behalf of the Club
  • The management portion of the resource/equipment allocation role of the previous Program Coordinator staff position (which Lauren Marchak did so ably for many years, before he retired last year)

(note: the administrative portion of the previous Programs role will be done by the Club Adminstrator, Sheryll Dale)

Jackie has spent the better part of 3 decades enhancing the growth and development of paddle sports – principally Dragon Boats, Outrigger Canoes and Kayaks.  She is acknowledged as an expert in the design and implementation of high-performance paddle sport coaching and team effectiveness programs.  She has worked with some of the best paddlers, coaches and event management personnel in the world, to represent paddle sports.

Jackie has guided thousands of people to break free of limits, to step into a boat & develop as a paddler – and then step onto the podium!

Competitive highlights include:

  • Winning the Open Women’s gold medal at the Solo Outrigger World Sprint Championships in Western Samoa, and a 5-time gold medal winner at the World Dragon Boat Championships (1987 – 1998).
  • Many podium finishes for her athletes (both team and individual) over the past 15 years in local, national and international waters in Dragon Boat and Outrigger canoe.

When Jackie is not on the water, she enjoys many other outdoor activities, including ocean kayaking, traveling, snow-shoeing, hiking, and running on the North Shore (basically, any activities where her buddy-in-fur, Chilli, can come along ...).  She also spends some of her time volunteering with the North Shore Coast Guard Auxiliary and the BCSPCA.

In her own words:

“The best thing that I have loved about my career is that I have had the chance to share my love and passion for paddle sports with both individuals and teams – and that truly has been a gift to me.  I am definitely looking forward to 2012 and the opportunity to work with the False Creek Racing Canoe Club membership."

You can contact her at Programs@fcrcc.com, with any questions, suggestions or anything else related to her tasks.

Catch Jackie on the water (if you can ...), or at an SBC this Spring,  and bid her Welcome!
