Last November a survey was sent out to people who had been full FCRCC members during any of the past 3 years.  We would like to thank everyone who took time to respond to the survey; in total 120 or a third of the membership responded.   Below is a summary of the issues raised and resolutions.

Issue 1:  Members want more information on programs and how to join them

·         The FCRCC website now has more through program information that include program descriptions, fees, practice schedules, and contacts.

Issue 2:  Members want programs that address a range of needs from novice to advanced

·         We are working with Lauren, our program coordinator, to redefine the small boat coaching (SBC) programs but the current issue is the availability of coaches.   Contact Lauren if you are interested in coaching.  The club will also provide various incentives to help develop coaches.

Issue 3:  Members would like the club to make it easier to register for SBC sessions and insure the member is taking the right SBC.

·         We are currently working with Lauren to redefine the SBC programs.

·         The club is implementing an online registration system that will be ready for use by the end of May.

Issue 4:  Availability of OC1s

·         Boat reservations are being published on the website and posted on the white board in the OC1 shed.

·         Members may reserve OC1/OC2 or marathons for races directly via the website instead of contacting the FCRCC office.

·         Purchase of new OC1s will likely begin next year.  The issue is identifying the type of solo boat that would be best suited to the needs of the club.  A discussion forum can be found on the website if you want input in the decision.

·         Many of the Surfriggers which currently leak will be refurbish over the next 2-3 years.

·         The space at the Burrard compound has now been expanded and the plan is to build an additional 30-boat storage rack for private OC1 and possibly club OC1/OC2’s.

Issue 5:  Boat handling and maintenance, not all members following proper procedure, lack of knowledge what to do if a boat needs repair, lack of knowledge about the club.

·         Equipment orientation will be mandatory for new members.  A check-list of information covered in the equipment orientation can be found on the FCRCC website.

Issue 6:  Members are not sure the club is listening to their concerns

·         We will conduct a membership satisfaction survey on an annual basis and publish the results.

·          The web site has a discussion forum where concerns can be raised.  Alternatively, questions/concerns can be addressed to any of the executive committee members.

Issue 7:  Members find the club's limited office hours inconvenient and a barrier to registration or membership renewal.

·         The club is implementing an online registration system.

·         Answers to common questions and who to contact can be found on the website.

Issue 8:  Politics, cliques

·         The club will improve the transparency of programs and the club's operations.
