Another great showing by FCRCC paddlers at this year's Lotus Sports Club's Ice Breaker V-12 races, on Saturday (23 Jan) ...

There were 8 of our crews there this year, and all finished very nicely up in their heats:

  • The Dazzling Dozen, A, 1 & Mixed Too crews were 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 5th in Heat 1

(the Dozen were indeed Dazzling, setting the fastest time of the day at 24:18, while the Too were nipped at the line - by the Pacific Reach Gliders - by a mere 14 secs, after 27+ minutes of racing)

  • RD 1 & 2 were 3rd & 2nd in their heat
  • Kapunas & Seniors were the only entries in their age divisions, both racing in the same heat against 3 Open crews ... with the Kapunas finishing only 17 secs out of 3rd in the heat, and the Seniors only ~ 4 minutes back of them

Some photos, courtesy of Christina, are here.

And also from Tina, a good Tale:

"We entered 2 RD crews into the race, who gave each other an awesome race.

RD 1 was ahead of RD 2, when RD 1 beached on some rocks approximately half way through the race, causing both crews to stop.  Xavier and Diana from RD 1 jumped out of their canoe to get 2 off the rocks, and then the race continued.

Both teams were now shoulder on shoulder, giving each other an exciting race to the finish line.  RD 2 won the race between the two RD crews by 11 seconds.

What a great 1st race of the season!"

(and what a fine example of sportmanship!  Ed.)

Full results here.

Well done, everyone!  (... now go have yourselves - another - suitable cold brew or warm toddy ...)

Congratulations to all the folks at Lotus for putting on the event, and to all the many crews (30 in total, from all over the Lower Mainland & from Van Isle!) who raced.
