A dragon boat race is typically an all-out sprint over a 200 or 500 metre course. It is one of the most intense and exhilirating races in canoe sports.
Dragon boat racing is also arguably the ultimate team sport. In order to win, the individual paddlers must blend together as a team. No single person can make the boat go faster without a corresponding and coordinated effort by the rest of the crew. Correspondingly, one person paddling out of time will inevitably result in a slower boat.
